How-To: Recreate Oscar Trends

Okay, this is our last post about the Academy Awards. Promise. But the Oscars did bring a lot of valuable trends to the table, such as oversized bows (Emma Stone), capes (Gwyneth Paltrow), and glitz (Jessica Chastain). Here at Lace Affair, we love when feminine glamour is on-trend, so we couldn’t be happier with the red carpet and how it has (and will) affect fashion. Below is some of our favorite new looks and how to recreate them using looks from our shop! Let us know in the comments how you would re-interpret the trends…

Going Dotty for Polka Dots

Natalie’s vintage Dior frock was feminine and on-trend even though it was from the Fifties! Re-create the look with our Adorned in Dots Dress.

O.K. Coral

It is always nice to see a bold color usurped by its milder cousin who looks even better! If coral is the new red, then you can fit right in with our Coral Wonder Dress!

Bow Down to the Bow

The great thing about a bow is that it can change it’s identity depending on its size. A small bow can be dainty and ladylike in your hair or as a pin, while an oversized bow like the one on our Mod Bow Jacket can be a fashion statement all its own.

Back In Black

A sequined dress can be pretty and sparkly, but a black sequined dress is another story. The darker version of these little glitters on a shirt or our Encircled in Sequins Scarf can be a stunning addition to any outfit

Decked Out in Deco

The Art Deco trend that permeated last season’s runway shows popped up again on the ornate print of Jessica’s dress. You can get a similar look with our Wish Upon A Shooting Star Necklace!

Monday Muse: The Glamourai

Some fashion & style blogs need flashy lights and bold names, while others prefer a more sophisticated and understated appearance. The Glamourai definitely falls into the latter category. The author, Kelly, is a fashion expert and an amazing photographer that prefers to let her work speak for her. And speak they do! Every post is beautiful, fun, and a fashion-lover’s dream. Here are some of our favorites!

Backstage Action

Kelly is a heavyweight in the fashion world, which means she gets to take up-close and personal pictures of the runway shows and presentations as they happen. Here she is at Elie Tahari’s A/W 2012 presentation, obviously admiring the bold colors!

The Artist Becomes the Subject

Here is the lovely blogger herself in her Fashion Week best during Day 5 of NYFW! Her personal style is funky and fabulous, which is why she is such an important fashionista!

High & Low

Kelly shows off her enviable wardrobe again with a casual-cool outfit that mixes high and low, masculine and feminine, and practical and funky. On anyone else, this could be all over the place, but on Kelly it just works!

Woman of All Trades

Aside from her amazing fashion career, Kelly recently became a beauty ambassador for FLIRT! Cosmetics, which allows her to give beauty tips to all of her many admirers, us included!

Expert Essential

The greatest part of Kelly’s blog is that although her life seems too fabulous to be real, her voice is laid-back and authentic, like talking to your best friend. When she described her favorite beauty staple, it was hard to believe that this is the same girl at every runway show…but it is!

Friday Favorites: Whitney Houston

It is always a shock when a celebrity dies, but Whitney Houston was the iconic diva of her time, and it is hard to see if anyone will ever fill her shoes. We would like to honor her with a Friday Favorites post, dedicated to her best looks! She was beautiful, talented, and incredibly charismatic, and no doubt will be remembered forever.

Bright-Eyed & Bushy-Haired

Before she became a superstar, Whitney was a young Gospel singer with a booming voice and TONS of hair.

And the Award Goes to…

While she became a household name, her style also became more glitzy and glamorous, with sparkles and bows aplenty!

Fame & Fortune

With a starring role in The Bodyguard and several best-selling albums, Whitney had a lot to celebrate, and a new sleek style to help her do it!

Add Another One to the Case

Still winning awards and dressing in bright diva-licious colors, Whitney seems much more comfortable with her huge smile and trendy haircut.

Never Give Up

Proving that she still had it after all those years, Whitney looked gorgeous last year in a sparkly mini and sleek hair & makeup.

Wordless Wednesday: Fashionable Book Heroines

Ironic that on a Wordless Wednesday we are talking about books? Not really. These women are all strong, brave, and fashionable in their own right and they deserve visual and descriptive praise! Whatever your personal style, whatever your favorite novel, the one thing that we can all agree on is that a classic love story is hard to beat! So are you a…?

Elizabeth Bennet from Pride & Prejudice

Jane Austen’s famously strong heroine eventually succumbs to love in this tale of manners & marriage in the 19th-century. While at first frumpy in dress, she gets the guy and retains her independence at the same time!

Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series

Giving new meaning to nerdy-chic, the brilliant and loyal witch and HP’s best friend is always put-together and prepared for any situation. In the end she helps save the wizarding world and gets the guy!

Anna Karenina from Anna Karenina

The tragic Russian heroine from Tolstoy’s epic tome is known for her beauty, her style, and her achingly beautiful love affair with a younger man. I won’t ruin the ending, but keep tissues handy!

Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby

The ethereal beauty from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1920′s masterpiece is a study in femininity, in weakness, and in the powers of love and loss. Just lovely.

Monday Muse: The Other Emily

The best thing about style blogs is getting a window into someone else’s life through their fashion choices. You can tell a lot about someone by the way they dress, so to have them show it to you willingly is pretty cool. One of our favorite bloggers, The Other Emily, is a world-traveller who has now settled down in Brooklyn. Her time spent on so many other countries and continents definitely influences her fashion, which is eclectic and funky. Along with her adorable outfits, shown through several close-up and full-body pictures, Emily tells her life story, and what a story it is! Here are some of our favorite images from her blog, go on and check it out!

Bangin’ Bangles

Emily is great at documenting her accessories, and what makes her outfits stand out from the everyday. These bangles are vintage, and they add a little pop of color to her ensemble.

It’s In  Her Makeup

Aside from her cool fashion and accessories, Emily likes to show off her hair and makeup, which is funky and youthful, just like the rest of her style!

Cool & Comfortable

Here Emily showed off one of her favorite outfits, and it was not something outlandish, but something cool, casual, and comfortable. Something we can all relate to!

Watch And Learn

As you can see, Emily loves her jean jacket! But she shows us that by mixing and matching accessories, you can create a new look with an old favorite!

A Punch of Color

Lest you think that all Emily wears is stripes and denim, here is a fun and bright dress to mark the change in seasons!
