Asymmetrical Angels

I’m in love with the crop of asymmetrical hemlines that started this summer and are carrying over into fall. They give you an edge without being too revealing, but also show just enough leg to be flirty!

While bare legs are obviously the way to go in the warmer months, asymmetrical hemlines look incredible with tights and booties as well – they almost act like a frame for your chicest shoes.

Currently Channeling: Roman Holiday

I recently watched the 1953 film Roman Holiday, and immediately fell in love with Audrey Hepburn’s simple, impeccable, and utterly stylish wardrobe. Miss Hepburn plays Princess Ann, and through a series of events winds up falling in love with an American journalist played by Gregory Peck. The film follows them during one single day in Rome, playing tourists and getting to know one another.

While playing royalty, her gowns and jewels sparkled and were obviously fabulous, but it was her timeless, classic, casual looks that stole the show. While zooming about town on a moped, Hepburn proves that some things never go out of style!{via google images}

The cinched waists, mid-calf skirts, gorgeous sandals, blouses, scarves – I love it all!

Belles of the Emmys

Last night was the 2011 Emmys, and while we missed the show, we sure couldn’t miss all of the red carpet coverage for the fashion hits and misses!

Overall, most stars seemed to play it self. Many looked beautiful but ‘meh’. And some were just…not good. At all.

Our favorites:Nina Dobrev in Donna Karan. Completely flawless. Kerry Washington in Zuhair Murad. Red was a hot color this year! Love the detailing on the bottom.Julie Bowen in Oscar de la RentaEvan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab. I’m not always a fan of her red carpet looks, but this dress fits her to perfection.Aubrey Plaza from Parks and Recreation – I’ve never really heard of her, but now I want to know more!Gwyneth Paltrow in Pucci. I know she’s getting flack for this dress, but I adore it. She’s got the bod, so why not? It’s daring while still being ladylike and glamorous. You go, Gwen!

And now for the major misses…Heidi Klum in Christian Siriano. Yes, Heidi, it’s adorable that you’re repping your Proj Run protégé. But frankly, you look like a barnacle. Wrapped in tissue paper. A hot barnacle, yes, but still a barnacle.Katie Holmes in Calvin Klein. Yea, it’s pretty enough. But it’s also a major snooze-fest.Lea Michele in Marchesa. This was a bit of a shock because I always love anything the Marchesa girls touch. But this just doesn’t fit Lea well, and it ages her by years.Paz de la Huerta. When I first saw this photo, I thought “Oh my, Ke$ha overdid it on the spray tan.” Which means all sorts of bad things for this look.

Who were your Emmy faves and fails?

Hint of Mint

Remember when SJP wore that unbelievable “barely mint” Dior Haute Couture Dress to the 2009 Oscars? This may have been when my obsession with mint began.

Actually, that’s a lie. I’ve been obsessed with mint chocolate chip ice cream since I was allowed to have ice cream, and like any toddler, I refused to eat it unless it was the green kind. Thank you, mom, for your patience and for constantly knowing which ice cream shops had the perfect ice cream for your picky daughter!

Anyways, I recently moved into a new apartment, and in thinking about decorating my bedroom, a palette including mint immediately sprang to mind. To me, it has the same calming effect of baby blue or grey, but looks incredible when contrasted with black, white, and shots of red and pink. Here are some of the minty images currently inspiring my design ideas!

Yes, I realize this is a nursery - but replace the crib with a bed and I would happily reside in this room! (Well, after I removed the diaper genie.)

What do you think of a mint color palette for the home?

Get the Look

I’m currently coveting this look from the beautiful Ashley over at stylecurrent. I’ve been a longtime reader of her blog and she always hits the nail on the head – I especially love her page dedicated to Style Rules.  This is one fashionista who knows what she’s talking about!

With Fall in full force, I’m loving a neutral palette with pops of color, and Ashley’s outfit is the perfect example of autumnal dressing done right.

At first glance, her look seems simple and classic (everything a truly stylish outfit should be). But her bright blue nails, powerful red lip, and leopard pumps take her look from classic to personalized. With fabulous jewelry and a simple clutch, she proves it only takes a revving up of details to make neutrals as riveting and captivating as flashy neon or sequins.

Love this look as much as we do? Try these Lace Affair staples and customize with metal bangles, a bright lip, and bold nails. Personalize and glamourize according to your mood!

Monday’s Muse: Solange Knowles

Though Beyoncé finally confirmed the truth about her baby bump (Congrats, B!), her baby sis Solange has long been out of her sibling’s shadow and proved herself as a cool-girl fashion queen in her own right.

As a singer/DJ/iconic dresser, Solange’s style is nothing if not bold. She mixes colors and patterns with seemingly effortless ease, and never looks like she tried too hard or thought about her outfit for hours on end. It probably doesn’t hurt that she comes from a flawless gene pool, and that her skin looks like it was gifted to her from the heavens of luminosity – we’ll stop being jealous long enough to admire her incredible style savvy.

She mixes trends – leopard, colorblocking, purple – in a way that is decidedly not too trendy but just right. How does she do it?! And just look at her gorgeous son – clearly, style is inherent.

Solange’s mix of prints, color, bold makeup, and impeccable skin make her an obvious choice as our Monday Muse – now off to find the brightest purple pumps we can to keep up!

Recipe: Mama Pea’s Dough Balls

If you’re anything like me, you consider chocolate it’s own separate food group. While I usually prefer my chocolate in bar form (hello, Lindt and Chocolove, I’m talking to you!), I can never turn down a good cookie. And these blow every other cookie right out of the water.

If you haven’t made Mama Pea’s Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Balls before, you are seriously missing out. Actually, if you haven’t heard of Mama Pea and her amazing blog, Peas and Thank You, I suggest you head on over ASAP. She’s smart, sassy, and a whiz in the kitchen. Basically, she’s everything I aspire to be.The first time I made them, I heard choirs sing and the heavens open. They are that good. They are like eating cookie dough straight out of the bowl, only with a warm gooey center and light crisp on the outside. Divinity in dough ball form.

And the best part? They whip up in less than 30 minutes and are completely adaptable to your taste! Don’t like peanut butter? Switch it up with Nutella or almond butter. Not a fan of milk chocolate? Use white or dark chocolate chips. Customizing your balls was never so easy (that sentence sounded better in my head).

Peachy Keen

My new favorite color, peach, is popping up everywhere these days. It flatters every skin tone, looks good with all metallics, and transitions from summer to fall perfectly. While peaches may be going out of season, this color is having its heyday. And peach home accessories? Bowls, dishes, duvets – you name it, I love it. It’s girly without being magenta, and can easily be toned down with shades of dove grey or powder blue. Peach for all!

I can’t wait to pair our newest arrival with grey skinnies, gold flats, and my favorite cozy turquoise sweater! Lace Affair Peaches & Cream Top

Peach and grey is romantic without being over-the-top feminine. I can easily see this look working in winter with a peach oxford under the sweater with knit trousers, or even the sweater alone with peach pants!{via pinterest}

Treat peach as a neutral – it works just as well with everything as white, nude, and cream. Don’t be afraid to mix shades of peach and layer up on the fresh hue!{via Atlantic-Pacific}

Peach and black make a surprisingly stunning pair on this gorgeous pillow. It’s way out of my price range, but makes for some fun color inspiration for my new apartment!
