One Fall Sweater, Two Ways

Well, we can stop denying it; Fall is here. Good thing we have a selection of sweaters to help with the transition! One of our favorite summer-to-fall looks is a cozy, yet breezy, sweater with a flouncy skirt. It is the perfect look for those days when you’re just not sure WHAT to wear! Our Lacey Sunday Sweater, with its scoop neck and lace panels, looks great when tucked into a printed skirt with flats or ankle boots and a colorful bag, and equally great with a statement necklace for a romantic weekend date. Here is how to dress it up or down:

Look #1: Casual

Running errands? Headed to the office on a Friday? Pair the sweater with retro round sunnies, our funky Eye Can See You Necklace, our classic Maple Syrup Maven Belt and our Flared and Floral Skirt for a feminine, cute and comfortable outfit! As the seasons change, you can rock the look with anything from flat sandals to cozy ankle boots and still look fab! Our Scalloped by the Sea bag completes the look with its bold blue and brown combo and enough room for all your essentials!

Look #2: Romantic

Searching for that perfect date look? The lace in the sweater emphasizes a romantic mood, especially when paired with our Teal Nouveau Belt, a classic navy skirt and our Skipping Stones statement necklace, drawing the eye to your gorgeous style. Finish off the look with sparkly heels and an ethereal hairstyle and let the love sweep you over.

Three Simple Fall Hairstyles

Just because the seasons are changing doesn’t mean that everything has to lose that summer glow. We are still rocking braids, buns and flowers here at Lace Affair, and these three simple, romantic and ethereal hairstyles will keep us occupied and stylish for months to come. Here is how to get the look:

Flirty & Floral

We love wearing flowers in our hair, but the problem with real ones is that they wilt. Enter our Snazzy & Jazzy Floral Hairpin, a perfect 1940′s-inspired look for day or night. To get this ‘do, let your hair air dry for a natural, romantic texture and then loosely braid back two pieces, letting strands fall out around your face. Secure the two braids with the hairpin and rock the gorgeous look with a feminine frock for a night among the stars.

All Knotted Up

Who says that your hair has to be sleek and perfect to be beautiful? Not us! This casual ‘do is so easy – all you need is some pomade or hair wax on your fingers as you twist and curve pieces around each other. Wind them together at the nape of your neck, pushing up the back into a ’60s-style ‘do, and then pull out strategic pieces around your face. Simple, casual, and oh-so-glam!

Babe With a Bow

All you need for this feminine and romantic look is a simple ribbon and delicate curls. Air dry your hair most of the way, the curl the ends around your finger as your blow dry to create piece-y and effortless waves. Leaving out your face-framing layers, loosely braid back two pieces until they are halfway down your head, the tie the ends together with your favorite ribbon. This look is especially gorgeous when paired with a white lacy top and classic jeans for a weekend look not to be forgotten.

Beat the Monday Blues with Brocade!

Our favorite fashion combo right now? Blue and brocade! Chic, classic, and perfect for any season, this dynamic duo can be worn or decorated with for all your DIY divas out there! Here are our favorite ways to rock the trend:

Paint It

Using a textured brush or lace stencil, create a unique look for your pad! Paint it with a soft blue or turquoise to keep it from being too out-there, and accent the wall with fresh flowers for the perfect balance.

Accessorize It

Spruce up your workspace with this dashing duo! White brocade desk accessories are easy to find (or DIY), and light blue folders and pencils are the perfect addition to make your desk a happy place you can’t wait to use everyday!

DIY It

Whether you use a stencil, a template or go it freehand, a chic painted mason jar is the perfect container for drinking, storing makeup brushes or as the most fashionable piggy bank you’ve ever owned! Spend your next Saturday browsing your local flea market for the perfect vintage pieces!

Wear It

Last but not least, if you really want to rock this look, you can shop our Bring On the Brocade Dress, the perfect shapely and feminine piece for your closet! Pair it with chic white sandals now or your favorite ankle boots as the weather cools down – either way you’ll look smokin’!

Say ‘Hello Sunshine’ With These Yellow Picks!

August may be the last month of summer but, from where we’re standing, the sun is still shining! Put on a happy face and say ‘hello sunshine’ with our I See Your Sunflowers Dress (pictured above), the perfect frock for a summer soiree and easily transitioned to fall with the addition of bordeaux tights and your favorite ankle boots! Want to savor the last few weeks of summer sunshine? Here are our favorite ideas:

Paint It Yellow!

Spruce up your bedroom or living room with fun yellow accents for a sunny disposition every morning! If you’re feeling really bold, try painting one (or every) wall in a pale shade of yellow that can work all year-round. If you’re a bit less adventurous, though, buy a yellow chair or picture frame for a sweet accent piece!

Bloomin’ Brights

There is no better way to embrace summer than with pretty flowers. Pick a bunch of yellow wildflowers, head down to the farmer’s market for a bushel of yellow roses, or simply grow your own in your garden. Whether you go real or fake, yellow blooms will perk you up mood everyday!

Whether you wear it, paint with it, or pick it from the garden, bright yellow will be your favorite color this month! How are you celebrating the end of summer?

Vintage “Mintspiration”

Mint green has been the IT color for Spring for several seasons now. However before then mint was a hard color to find. We are loving that mint has stuck around so much that we have a special section devoted just to it. What is interesting though is that mint was a popular color in the 1950′s and 60′s! Who knew it was so retro?! Here are some of our favorite vintage mint looks followed by our favorite current mint dresses:

Vintage looks from 1965, 1954, & 1962 all via
